Why do under-eyes appear hollow?
The indentation that sits between the lower eyelid and the cheek is referred to as the tear trough.
Some individuals may have tear troughs that are easily seen, whereas some may have a normal appearance and, over time, begin to show more. Hollowness can cast shadows that make the under-eye region look darker.
Factors that may contribute to under-eye hollowing
- Loss of collagen
- Changes to facial fat
- Decreased skin elasticity
- Hereditary
- Exposure to sun
