Expected reactions after treatment include redness for 24 to 72 hours, slight swelling, sensitivity and tenderness for 24 to 48 hours, tight feeling skin, and some flaking. These are a normal part of healing.
The FDA lists known risks including redness, dryness, roughness, tightness, itching, peeling, discomfort, burning, bruising, bleeding and crusting. Less common risks include pigmentation changes, cold sore activation and infection.
For the first 24 hours, avoid unnecessary contact with the treated area, cleanse gently, use only the recommended hydrating or soothing skincare, avoid makeup if instructed to, avoid saunas, hot tubs, intense exercise and extreme heat, and avoid strong active skincare and sun exposure.
As healing continues, use daily sun protection and moisturizer, keep skin hydrated, use gentle skincare, avoid picking at the skin, and follow the individualized instructions given for your device, depth and skin.
Contact the clinic for severe or persistent redness beyond the expected recovery time, signs of infection such as increased warmth, redness, drainage or pus, severe or persistent swelling, or any concern about healing or results.
