Why chin projection affects the whole face
Some people naturally have a recessed chin, while others notice changes in facial proportions over time. Clients may say things like, "My side profile bothers me," "My nose looks too big in pictures," "I wish I had a stronger lower face," "My chin seems to disappear from the side," or "My profile feels too soft, but I don't want surgery." A facial examination is the best way to determine if projection is an issue.
The relative size and position of the chin compared to the rest of the face determines the balance and proportions of other features. An unprojected chin may disrupt balance of nose to chin, lip to chin, undefined jawline, short lower face length, and side profile. There can be a number of discrepancies. Changing the chin can significantly alter the entire facial profile.
Facial balance is not defined by one universal standard. Natural proportions vary from person to person, so chin filler should not be based on copying someone else's chin.
